Description
Oil well fire. Firefighters from Halliburton's Boots and Coots company preparing to extinguish a blazing oil well. This is in the Rumeilah Oil Field in southern Iraq. The oil wells were set alight by Iraqi troops as they retreated from the invading coalition forces in March 2003. A backhoe (a type of excavator, at right) is used to remove debris from the well head area. The excavator and surrounding area is cooled by water from a high pressure hose (lower left). Photographed in March 2003.
