Albert James Myer (1828-1880), US surgeon and army general. Myer is best known for organizing and commanded the US Army Signal Corps (1856-1880). He served as the first chief of the organization. Myer also invented wig-wag signalling and started the U.S Weather Bureau. Painted by George Peter Alexander Healy in 1876.
