Here is a link that gives info on the tribe, Julie. They have now become a huge tourist attraction in northern Thailand. This image was taken before that occurred and was in a remote jungle area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayan_(Burma)

So is there a stopping point on the neck rings? Does she keep getting them until she marries are a certain age? Also, thanks for checking out my page. I appreciate it.

Thank you, Julie! Those are brass coils that are added to as a girl matures. She was neither in pain nor upset. I guess I caught her at a serious moment here. I did get smiles out of a few of them. :)

Thanks for posting such an interesting photo. Most of us rarely see natives from a tribe such as this. This idea of beauty is strange for us but for them is a sign of beauty. Was that gold neck rings? The expression on her face either meant she was in pain or she didn't really like her picture taken. I admire you your travels and being able to get out there and see the world. Voted.

Thank you, Marie! It could be the same woman. I heard they moved to a more civilized area. This was taken in a wild and remote area that was really tough to get to.

I know this face - nice photo. My husband photographed all these nice ladies and I painted one.

Beauty does take on some strange forms, huh! She would likely think high heel shoes pretty weird! :)

Excellent photograph. But a strange concept for beauty. I hope it doesn't hurt. Chuck
